Origin:
Named After Dr Albert Levy Dr. Albert M. Levy was a member of the Texas Army and took part in the capture of San Antonio de Bexar when the Texans seized the town and the Alamo from the Mexican forces in December 1835, two months before the famous siege of the Alamo began. Dr. Levy was highly praised for his part in this battle by F. W. Johnson, one of the Texan commanders. He died in 1860.
Four people of Jewish descent did, however, die in the Alamo battle of March 6, 1836. One of them was Anthony Wolf, an English Jew and both his sons aged 11 & 12. Another, Galba Fuqua, was one of the group of settlers from the town of Gonzales who rode to the aid of the besieged garrison. He died in the battle three days before his 17th birthday.
